Packing for the Fourth of July Weekend

Jimmy and I frequently travel from Brooklyn to Connecticut to visit our family in Clinton. We always love escaping the hustle of the city to enjoy the bright sunshine, calming ocean breeze and clear night skies.

For the holiday weekend, we are spending a few days in Clinton and then driving North to my parent’s house in Massachusetts for the Fourth on Tuesday. I grew up attending and walking in the Fourth of July parade down Main Street and I wanted to continue the tradition by taking James this year. It will be his first parade so I am so excited to see what he thinks!

As for my packing list, I always start with a color palette.  Since this holiday is all about red, white, and blue, I had to stick to the theme.  Since I am using my Lo and Sons Weekender Bag, I try to stay simple and mix and match my pieces but if you’re like me, you tend to overpack! I find that planning my outfits ahead of time really helps the overthinking when I am trying to think of what to wear in the morning which makes the day that much more relaxing.  I broke down how I would wear each item throughout the weekend below:

Friday – Wearing a blue long sleeve Beachcomber top and white shorts for traveling to Clinton. I can also wear this during the day in case we go for a walk around the neighborhood.

Saturday – For a beach day, I’ll wear my red and white striped long sleeve shirt and denim shorts. I like having extra coverage in the sun when needed. At night I’ll switch to my off-the-shoulder dress with sandals.

Sunday – For an afternoon at the winery, I’ll wear my gingham top with my white shorts, sandals and a cross-body bag (in case of rain, my Hunter rainboots are packed!)  I’ll bring my denim jacket just in case we stay past sunset since the ocean air always makes the weather a little cooler.

Monday – For our travel day to Hingham, I’ll wear my red and white striped skirt and top. The look is already nice to wear to have lunch with friends.

Tuesday – A white dress and straw hat are going to be my parade attire. They are both lightweight and comfortable and perfect for the summer sun. Getting back in the car, I’ll wear my overalls with a striped shirt to be extra comfortable for the long trip back to Brooklyn.
