Our family has had our UppaBaby Cruz stroller since James was born but knew it was time to upgrade to a double. We didn’t know which direction to choose (tandem vs. side by side, which brand, removable seats etc) but are very pleased with our decision: the Baby Jogger GT City Mini.
There are a few reasons why we went with this particular stroller but then actually using it for a few weeks, the decision has been justified! After much debate, we wanted a side by side seating arrangement. This is because our babies are so close in age that it will be more enjoyable for them to sit next to each other rather than one having to be on the bottom or the top. It might not even bother them but it makes me happy to have them be in equal places. With the tandem too I felt like it was very bulky and heavy. Another reason for choosing this stroller is we actually test drove (? is that a thing?) my friend’s City Mini (hi Ariel!) and LOVED it. Our reasons for loving it are below.
Pros
Hand Brake
I really like this feature. I am used to pushing the brake with my foot but with the brake conveniently located on my right hand side, I can just pull it up with such ease and the stroller will stay put.
Easy to Push
With two babies, I was nervous any double stroller would be hard to push. However, the City Mini is SO easy to maneuver down the street. We ride over bumps without skipping a beat, dodge people and things, and I can actually push the stroller with one hand!
Fits Through Doors
I am not sure if it’s ALL doors but the ones I’ve been to in the city allow this stroller to get through. It is a double so it’s definitely wide but I find having any stroller is not an easy feat to bring anywhere and be out of the way.
Adjustable Seats
The seats can either be upright or adjusted to lay back. If one child wants to sleep and lay down, the other can still look out in an upright position!
Easy to Fold
Storing a stroller in the city is not easy but folding the City Mini is! You just lift up the two pull handles on the seat and it folds right up.
Weight and Height Limits
The stroller can hold up to 100lb so we know our boys will be able to fit in these seats for a long time.
Cons
The Buckles
There are many parts to the buckle and it takes me awhile to get the babies secure but once they’re in we’re good to go! No questions about safety.
The Storage
The UppaBaby Cruz has more storage so that is what I am used to. Filling up on groceries is not an option with the City Mini but you can definitely fit a few necessities. We usually have a blanket, wipes, diapers, and a bag of groceries can fit.
Heavy
While the pushing is lightweight and easy, if you need to lift the stroller out of your home or car, it’s definitely not light.
